Cement Co barges 50,000 bags to Hanover

Published: Wednesday October 8, 2008

Caribbean Cement Company Limited on Sunday shipped 50,000 bags of cement destined for its Montego Bay Depot by barge. The barge took a 12-hour journey to Mosquito Cove, Hanover from its Cement Pier in Rockfort. Carib Cement revisited shipping cement by barge following the damage done to the Harbour View Bridge and the Bog Walk Gorge by Tropical Storm Gustav.

The damage to the bridge and the gorge affected the transportation of both raw materials and finished product. Carib Cement found that transportation by barge had many potential advantages, among which were, more cost-efficient, less damage to and congestion on roadways and less environmental impact as carbon emissions will be reduced.

The Company is hopeful that this venture will be successful and that shipping by barge will become a routine part of the Company's operations.
